SHC-3 GRAS $249

The Gras is two bedroom, one bath rustic-modern Scandinavian style home and cottage featuring a covered porch and entry, rear sunning deck, cathedral ceilings, a heat-pump with wood or gas fireplace options, full kitchen with eating island, concrete floors with an optional engineered floating wood finish, and an array of super-insulation options.

Handsome windows, vertical wood siding, and a metal roof deliver a simple rustic-modern aesthetic typical of Scandinavian style hytte architecture that sits comfortably in a variety of natural environments - from the coast to the woods.

The 224 square foot timber deck can be easily extended to any depth desired and is here shown at 8’-0” deep x 28’-0” wide. Choose a naturally rot resistant wood or a beautifully engineered composite decking.

The cottage boasts large side windows to highlight views and bring in daylight with optional lower venting units for fresh air. There are also sliding glass doors at both ends of the building for seamless porch and deck access, additional light capture, and for highlighting additional views.

The Gras cottage in daylight emphasizing its linear side view potential and venting via lower window units. A simple, streamlined stainless steel gutter and downspout manage rain when it comes, and a porch and deck offer outdoor space for sunny and rainy days alike.

Vaulted ceilings visually enlarge the main room of the Gras cottage giving the entire living area a creative air. Ceiling options include typical sheetrock or an air-sealed tongue and groove wood. Down low the floor can be finished as a mechanically smoothed contemporary concrete, an engineered floating wood floor, or both, depending on the room. Why not have a resilient concrete finish for your entry area and bathroom, and a comfortable wood finish for your living spaces?

The open floor plan and soaring ceiling allows the indoor space to absorb the expanse of the outdoors when you want it to. When privacy is desired, the space will still seem large and open despite window coverings thanks to the same features.

The long lines and large windows at either side of the open floor plan allow this space to feel effortlessly spacious but the roominess is real. There is plenty of space for cooks in the kitchen, family or friends at the table and room to cross paths with each other in comfort. The kitchen island could support an eating bar along with the dining area space or be utilized for extra storage as in the photo!

There is so much space in this area! Space for a dining table ample enough for intimate family dinners or a gathering is planned into the square footage so that meal times and celebrations don’t feel cramped.

The open lines allow one to be far from living room activity and have some quiet space for cooking but easily supports moments where the cook doesn’t want to be out of the action and closed off in another room. It’s easy to feel the energy of the entire space with long lines of sight and expansive windows in all directions.

Airy ceilings and plenty of natural light flood this space with egress to an outdoor patio space for warm mornings or nights you want to do some stargazing.

A smaller second bedroom still affords plenty of room for any size bed. Conversely, this could make an excellent flex room with plenty of room for an office, craft or work room. Adding a Murphy bed to your interior layout could take multipurpose to a new level with room for anything and everything you might need it to provide.

A fully appointed bathroom area has room for everything and no wasted space.
