KUKUI House Tour

The KUKUI Great Room with Abundant Natural Light

A perennial advantage to open concept spaces is that from any angle they not only appear spacious but that multiple angles of view create the spaces without the need for walls. Looking back toward the kitchen and dining from your living area connects you right to any action that might be happening there. Changing your view just a bit connects you to the outdoors via a wall of windows.

The KUKUI Contemporary Living with High Ceilings

High sloping ceilings and clerestory windows coupled with open concept main rooms and expansive windows throughout make this simple design seem effortless to live in and maintain. Despite the smaller square footage, everything is seamless and easy and appears larger than a number would indicate.

The KUKUI Spacious Dining Area with Porch Access

The dining area has ample space for entertaining family and friends, separately or even at the same time. Plenty of room is allotted for a grand table, perfect for enjoying good meals, games, work, crafts or conversation in a bright and open area. The Kukui floor plan has prioritized space for being together, however many people that includes.

The KUKUI Modern Kitchen Style with Island

Ultra commodious kitchen offers generous storage and seating for serious cooking and casual dining, room enough for two to cook harmoniously, and room for any size appliances you choose. Easy communication is facilitated by the open floor plan so the cook is never left out. A nearby door to the outside makes bringing in guests, groceries or garden bounty a breeze.

The KUKUI Spacious Counters with a Modern Aesthetic

Note that there is ample space for a six burner stove and the largest of fridges and still an incredible amount of counter space. Long clean lines emphasize the space.

The KUKUI Main Bedroom with Ensuite

The main bedroom carries on the open concept aesthetic with wide entrances to an attached bath and walk in closet. Easy to clean, easy to sleep and dream in. Big windows let the morning light flood in.

The KUKUI Ensuite with Private Toilet and Walk-in Shower

The main bathroom features ample room for a vanity, separate toilet room and a walk in shower.

The KUKUI Second Bedroom

The second bedroom is simple, open and clean, gaining a spaciousness from high ceilings and big windows.

The KUKUI Third Bedroom

This bedroom could easily be reserved for a flex space if not needed as a bedroom and as with all the rooms of the Kukui, high ceilings and access to the outdoors makes the space refreshingly open.

The KUKUI Bathroom

The second bathroom is smaller in size, easy to maintain with clean lines and offers a well sized walk in shower.

The KUKUI Covered Entry Porch

The covered porch borrows from Asian design aesthetics and creates a simple, noble and at once eminently utilitarian entrance to this modern home, offering space to set down items and be protected from the elements as you prepare to enter your home. While intentionally very simple in design, the dedicated entry completes the front of the house and creates a sense of stepping out of one world and into home.

The KUKUI Expansive Covered Rear Deck

There is so much opportunity for enjoying your outdoor space with the Kukui plan and its magnificent home length deck space. Simple lines again enhance the spaciousness and minimize the cleaning and maintenance obligations. Everyone from the most minimalist to the most extravagant gardener will appreciate the visual connection between indoors and outdoors that the simple decking and the broad expanse of floor to near ceiling windows encourages.

Interested in building this plan? If so, I recommend downloading the FREE PDF study plan. With it you are welcome to share it with potential builders, and obtain local cost-to-build estimates. You can even email it to local building supply stores to request “take-offs” for construction. Take-offs are just material lists put together by suppliers, almost always free of charge, in an effort to get your business. In my experience, only the Big Box hardware stores will charge for take-offs. That’s fine too. But these chains typically offer the lowest quality lumber so, whenever possible, it is probably good practice to shop local suppliers first.
