Van Insulation

We started by installing a closed-cell foam base layer for noise reduction and some modest thermal resistance. It reduced road noise tremendously and does help keep the van cooler in the sunshine. It was a peel-and-stick sheet that adhered directly to the steel.
We temporarily removed the headliner so we could insulate the roof above the cabin area. Getting the headliner off took some finesse, and we accidentally set off the SOS button!
We also removed the interior factory ceiling so we could insulate the roof with our closed-cell foam layer. This worked great and helps keep things cooler and quieter. It would be many weeks before we could fully reinstall the ceiling though as you will see in upcoming posts.
Once the foam layer was installed we began installing 3M Thinsulate® batts. This was fairly easy to cut to size with scissors for installation.
Here’s what the overhead looked like once we had installed both layers of insulation.
One layer of foam liner.
One layer of 3M Thinsulate® batting
Tuck Tape.
All done!
Stay tuned for interior framing, water and electrical systems, and more!
